Finding Stability When Everything Feels Unpredictable

Finding Stability When Everything Feels Unpredictable

The world doesn’t wait for us to catch our breath anymore. Every day, something new shakes the ground beneath our feet—markets rise and fall, news cycles twist overnight, storms roll through, relationships shift, opportunities come and go. If we’re honest, unpredictability has become the new normal.

But here’s the hard truth I’ve learned, and it’s something that runs deep in my book Truth in the Trenches: stability isn’t something handed to us—it’s something we build when everything else feels like it’s slipping away.

For me, that foundation started in the trenches of my own life. Losing, starting over, fighting through moments when I didn’t know what was next. When the world spun, I had to find anchors. Sometimes that anchor was as small as a morning routine. Sometimes it was keeping my health in check. Sometimes it was writing things down so the chaos stayed on paper instead of in my head. Little things, yes—but they added up to stability in the middle of storms.

The second anchor came with perspective. I had to stop carrying the weight of things I couldn’t control. On the flip side, I had to stop carrying the weight of things I COULD CONTROL! Take a moment to think about that.

We waste so much energy trying to fix the unfixable, to change people who don’t want to change, to predict outcomes that were never ours to predict. The moment I learned to ask myself, What can I just do today, rather than try to control today? What can I let go of?—that’s when stability started to take root.

And then, there’s connection. Too many times in my life I thought stability meant standing strong alone. That’s not true. Real stability is found in the people who stand with you when the floor is falling out. A phone call, a mentor’s advice, even a stranger’s kindness—it’s those moments of human connection that keep us grounded. In Truth in the Trenches, I talk about leaning on people when the walls were closing in. I would not have made it through without them.

Here’s what I’ve come to realize: unpredictability isn’t going anywhere. Life will never stop shifting, twisting, or surprising us. The storms don’t wait until we’re ready. Stability doesn’t come from pretending the storm isn’t there—it comes from planting our feet anyway.

There are no mistakes in life.

And that’s the heart of my story. I’ve been through fires I didn’t ask for. I’ve faced chaos I couldn’t control. But stability wasn’t lost—it was built, one decision, one anchor, one truth at a time.

The trenches are real. The unpredictability is real. But so is the strength we build in the middle of it all.

Till tomorrow…
